Before it was a part of Adilabad district and later it came into existence as a district in Telangana. There are many ponds and forts in Nirmal District. The name of the district has arrived from Nimma Nayudu who was the king and founder of Nirmal. The district is located on Deccan plateau and the Godavari River flows through the district. The district is bounded by Adilabad on the North, Komaram Bheem Asifabad on North East, Mancherial on the East, Jagityal & Nizamabad (along with River Godavari) to the South and Nanded District of Maharashtra State on the West.
