The government aims to address this concern by redesigning various health schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. The article discusses various aspects of this maternity scheme.

About PMMVY

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a scheme launched in 2017, with the whole meaning loosely translating to "Prime Minister's scheme for mother's worship." Its purpose is to provide financial compensation to pregnant women who have lost their jobs due to pregnancy and to enhance the nutritional support for pregnant and lactating mothers.

Objectives of PMMVY

The average Indian woman faces undernourishment due to poverty and limited food access. To address this, the government introduces health schemes, like the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), under the Women and Child Development Ministry.

1) The PMMVY aims to partially compensate working pregnant women and lactating mothers who experienced wage loss due to pregnancy.
2) Pregnancy requires additional nutrition to sustain a healthy pregnancy and childbirth.
3) The cash incentive, given in three installments through PMMVY, can be used to meet the daily nutritional requirements solely for the benefit of pregnant women.

Beneficiaries of the PMMVY Scheme

1) The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) covers all pregnant women and lactating mothers except those employed by the State Government, Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, or receiving similar benefits under another applicable law.

2) The scheme also includes pregnant and lactating Anganwadi Workers (AWW), Anganwadi Helpers (AWH), and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA).

Coverages of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

The PMMVY scheme offers cash incentives to lactating and pregnant women who lost their jobs during pregnancy. The incentives are provided in three installments, to be claimed within specific periods. However, the scheme does not offer any additional coverages beyond these cash incentives.

Eligibility Criteria for PMMVY
