Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Benefit Scheme is announced by the State Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam in the budget session 2018-19. Under this scheme, the State government will provide a Maternity Nutrition Kit worth Rs 4,000/- to pregnant women. Along with the kit, the State government will also provide the financial amount of Rs 14,000/- to pregnant women under this scheme. As mentioned before in this article, Maternity Nutrition Kit will be provided under Muthulakshmi Maternity Scheme. For this scheme, the State government has allocated a budget of Rs 1,001.33 Crore. Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme is launched at Egmore Government Maternity Hospital. Government is also aware that they have to enhance the facility of government run hospitals in the State. Every woman in the State who has delivered babies before the 1st of January is not eligible for this scheme revised version. Scheme benefits and other details are in the article below.
Key Features of Dr. Muthulakshmi Maternity Scheme
2) The amount which was previously given under Muthulakshmi Maternity Scheme is now been increased from Rs 12,000/- to Rs 18,000/-.
3) Under Amma Maternity Nutrition Kit Scheme Maternity Nutrition Kit worth Rs 4,000/- will be provided to State pregnant women.
4) In the Maternity Nutrition Kit total of around 12 nutrition items will be provided, which even includes dry fruits.
5) The Nutrition Kit will be provided twice to pregnant women. First, it will be given at the 12th week of pregnancy, and second will be given at the 16th to 20th week of pregnancy.
6) For this scheme State government will spend Rs 1,001.33 crore.
7) Under this scheme, the State government will also provide the amount of Rs 14,000/- to pregnant women as financial assistance.
8) Due to the Maternity Nutrition Kit, different nutrition deficiency diseases during pregnancy to mother and baby will reduce. Also, it will help to improve the baby's health and weight.
9) It is expected that under this scheme, every year, around 8 lakh pregnant women will get its benefit.

2) As the kit is provided under Muthulakshmi Maternity Scheme so pregnant women have to register in that scheme to get the nutrition kit.
3) The registration can be done with UHN/VHN.
