Casteism is a prevalent issue in our society, where social status and prestige are the basis for placing one caste above the other. This results in dividing people into separate communities based on graded inequality and the practice of endogamy, which prohibits inter-caste marriages. Unfortunately, caste discrimination persists, and people often do not allow their loved ones to marry outside their caste.
To combat this problem, the Government of Assam has launched the Inter Caste Marriage Scheme, which aims to eliminate caste discrimination. The scheme will provide monetary benefits to married couples and their parents when they marry across general and scheduled castes. This initiative, named Financial Incentive to Inter-Caste Marriage, is a step forward in promoting social harmony and reducing caste prejudices in society.
Objective of Inter Caste Marriage Scheme
The Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain), Government of Assam has launched the Assam Inter Caste Marriage Yojana intending to eliminate caste discrimination and appreciate couples who take the bold step of inter-caste marriage. As part of this scheme, the government of Assam will provide financial incentives to parents and married couples who engage in inter-caste marriages, thereby promoting social harmony and equality.
Assam Inter Caste Marriage Scheme Benefits
1) The Government of Assam has initiated a scheme that benefits newly married inter-caste couples and their parents.
2) The primary objective of the scheme is to recognize and appreciate the socially courageous decision of newly married inter-caste couples.
3) Under the Assam Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme, the government provides financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to each inter-caste married couple.
4) Marriage under this scheme should take place between a girl or boy belonging to the general caste and a girl or boy belonging to the scheduled caste.
5) The scheme will benefit 100 inter-caste married couples in a year.
6) The marriage should be valid according to Indian law, and the scheme does not incentivise a second marriage.
7) According to the scheme, the amount of Rs. 50,000 will be directly transferred to the bank account of the bride, groom, or joint account of the couple through DBT transfer. This is to ensure that the financial assistance reaches the beneficiaries without any delay or intermediaries.
8) Individuals who provide false or fabricated information to the competent authority in relation to the scheme will be subject to punishment as per the applicable laws.
Eligibility Criteria for Assam Inter Caste Marriage Scheme
To be eligible for the benefits of this scheme, you must fulfil the conditions mentioned below:
1)The applicant should be a permanent resident of Assam.
2) The inter-caste marriage should occur between a general caste and a scheduled caste couple to be eligible for the scheme.
3) the marriage should be valid per Indian law to be eligible for the scheme.
4)only first-time marriages between a couple belonging to a general caste and a scheduled caste are eligible for the financial incentive. Second marriages or subsequent marriages are not eligible for the scheme benefits.
Documents Required:
1) Caste certificate of husband & wife.
2) Marriage certificate issued by the Sub-Registrar.
3) Proof of General caste of husband or wife.
4) Bank details of the bride/ groom/couple's joint account.
5) Joint photo of the couple.
How to Apply Assam Inter Caste Marriage Scheme Online
1) To apply for the scheme, you must visit the official website of the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain), Government of Assam: https://directorwsc.assam.gov.in/.
2) On the portal's home page, go to the "How do I?" section and click on "More."
3) Once you click on the "More" button in the section on the home page, click on "Apply for Financial Incentive for Inter-Caste Marriages." This will take you to a new page where you can begin the application process.
4) Complete the application form and attach all the required documents.
