The election process is the backbone of a democracy. Voting is vital to ensuring that governments are elected fairly and by popular vote so that every citizen has the same amount of say.
The Constitution of India says there will be a group called the Election Commission of India. This group is in charge of running elections, registering voters, and keeping an eye on how the elections are run. This makes it less likely that there will be wrongdoing at the polls. In addition to the ECI, each state has its own Election Commission, which handles electoral processes inside that state or union territory.
In addition to running elections, the Election Commission gives eligible citizens electoral voter cards, which let them vote in elections. Currently, the ECI gives eligible voters coloured ID cards called EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card).
