The pension is helping senior citizens to live independently during post retirement life. The scheme also attracts good tax exemption. 40% of the maturity corpus of NPS is free from income tax. Hence, the 100% amount you draw at the time of retirement will not attract tax. Only 40% of the amount will be taxable.

 

How National Pension Scheme Works


Under National Pension Scheme – NPS, an employee’s savings are preserved as a pension fund. The funds are invested with PFRDA. The invested amount also accumulates interest. The amount is invested by PFRDA in bonds, debentures, and shares. While exiting the NPS scheme, you can withdraw a part of your pension if you wish. You can also buy a life annuity. Numerous bank branches are appointed as POP-SP. These Point of Presence Service Providers carry out all NPS activities for the subscribers.

 

Online NPS Account Opening Procedure at eNPS.nsdl.com

Here is a stepwise procedure to open a national pension scheme online. The online portal of NSDL offers the facility to open an account online.
 
  1. Registration for National Pension Scheme Account
  2. Visit https://enps.nsdl.com/eNPS/OnlineSubscriberRegistration.html?appType=main
  3. Select the registration option.
  4. You will see a new page for Online Subscribers Registration.
  5. Follow the tab for new registration.
  6. Register as an ‘individual subscriber.’
  7. Select the citizen of India option.
  8. Choose the option of Aadhar or PAN card to register.
Register your national pension scheme under Tier I. IT is a non-withdrawable account. The best for long term savings which carry tax benefits.
 
If you open an account under Tier II, you can invest and withdraw in various NPS schemes. Even when you are not investing in any scheme, your account continues.

 

Open NPS Account Using Aadhar Card Number


Once you complete registration, enter your aadhar number. Get OTP and complete filling up all the details with OTP. Some details will be automatically received from your aadhar details. Upload your signature and photograph. After you submit all the details, you will reach the payment gateway. Pay the minimum required amount through net banking or card.

 

National Pension Scheme Account through PAN


To open account, you should have account with any of the associated banks. Make sure you have account with Dena Bank, SBI, Vijaya Bank, IBI, Corporation Bank UBI, Bank of Maharashtra and other empanelled banks.
Provide your name, address and other complete all the mandatory fields. Upload your signature and photograph. Make payment of minimum amount to your NPS account.
 

Generate PRAN


After successful registration and payment for the National pension scheme account, you will receive PRAN. PRAN is a permanent retirement account number. You will soon receive a complete PRAN kit. It will contain your PRAN card and TPIN or IPIN number. It will also have a booklet and letter confirmation.
 
After you register, take a printout of the account opening form submitted by you. Paste the photo and sign in the place for signature. Send them to the following address after you receive PRAN.
