Introduction
Identifying the hearing problems in children proves to be very helpful. Children
with hearing loss will benefit more if treatment is initiated within six months of
age. Cochlear implants in children will help for the holistic development of
them. But not all the parents can afford to get cochlear implant surgery done
for their kids. Thus Kerala government is launched the Kerala Sruthitharangam
scheme.
Eligibility Criteria for Kerala Sruthitharangam Scheme
Children with hearing loss in the age group of 0-5 years and whose annual
family income is below Rs. 2 lakh are eligible to apply for this scheme. The
scheme was meant to be children less than 3 years but the screening
committee can relax the age up to 5 years for some exceptional cases, where
the success rate is expected to high. Parents of children should be permanent
residents of Kerala state. They must be ready to undergo speech therapy
training.
Benefits of Kerala Sruthitharangam Scheme
Children selected for the Kerala Sruthitharangam scheme will get free
treatment for hearing problem. Kerala government will provide financial
assistance to these children. Free Cochlear implant surgery, if needed for these
children will be done at the hospitals in the panel. Food and lodging expenses
during the treatment for the beneficiary and his/her guardian will also be
provided by the government.

- Medical certificate requiring cardiac surgery by a competent and qualified cardiac surgeon
- Identity proof (Adhar Card, Election card)
- Childbirth certificate
- Income certificate should not exceed Rs. 2 lakh per year
- Details of employment of guardian
How to Apply for Kerala Sruthitharangam Scheme
1) Application forms for the Kerala Sruthitharangam scheme is available on the
official website of Kerala Social Security Mission website,
socialsecuritymission.gov.in.
2) Find the main menu and click on the “Application
Forms” tab.
3) In the page that opens, applicants can see “Sruthitharangam:
application for spare & accessories cochlear implant” click the “View” in front of
it.
4) In the window that opens, there is application form PDF, this can be
downloaded. Fill the application with necessary details and submit the same
along with the necessary documents to the concerned authorities. The
application will be verified by the authorities and upon approval, financial
assistance will be provided.
