Medak district was a part of Nizam’s princely State. Medak was originally called Siddapur. Later, it was known as Gulshanabad. Qutub Shahis named it Gulshanabad, which means City of Gardens. Due to its luscious Greenery, they changed the name to Medak after it was called Methuku Seema or Methuku durgam again.

Medak District is bound by Karimnagar District to the East, Nalgonda District to the East, Nizamabad District to the North, Rangareddy District to the South, Warangal District to the East, and Bidar District to the west. It shares a border with Karnataka State to the South. Narsapur Forest, located 35 km from Hyderabad, is spread between Gummadidala and Narsapur. This forest covers 30 km².
