Chhattisgarh State With Districts in India
History of Chhattisgarh State
In ancient times, a large part of what is now Chhattisgarh was called Dandakaranya. Dakshina Koshal was the name for other parts. In the Middle Ages, the area south of the Vindhyas Mountains came to be called Gondwana. In this country, people lived in their first homes long before they did anywhere else in the country. Historians and anthropologists are trying to figure out exactly when people first moved into this area.
From the beginning, many people moved to Chhattisgarh from nearby places. These people now make up a big part of the population. Since the time of the great Magadha Empire, Chhattisgarh has been a part of every empire that has ruled the country from north to south but only from a political point of view.
Since the area was tough to get to, not much could be done to change how the tribes lived. The first people to have precise control over this area were the Kalchuris. They did this until the 19th century. After the Kalchuris fell, this area was ruled for a short time by the Bhonsle of Nagpur in the 19th century. But when the Marathas lost power, there was no law anywhere in the area, and many tribal chieftains took control of small pieces of land.
The English saw that the area was rich in minerals and built a vast network of mines and railroad tracks. This was the start of a new time in the history of the Chhattisgarh tribes. Today, people of many different races from all over India live in the State and work together to make it a thriving place.
