Chitrakoot district With Talukas: Chitrakoot district is one of the districts of UttarPradesh state of India, and Chitrakoot town is the district headquarters. Chitrakoot district is a part of Chitrakoot Division.  As of 2011 it is the second least populated district of Uttar Pradesh after Mahoba. Before independence of India it was a part of Baghelkhand agency.  On 6 May 1997, a new district was carved out from the erstwhile Banda district comprising its Karwi and Mau tehsils. Chitrakoot was initially named as Chhatrapati Shahuji Nagar district. On 4 September 1998, it was renamed as Chitrakoot district. In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Chitrakoot one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).It is one of the 34 districts in Uttar Pradesh currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). Successive governments have often ignored Chitrakoot’s development and hence has become one of the most remote and cut-off districts in India.

According to the 2011 census, Chitrakoot district has a population of 990,626. The district has a population density of 315 inhabitants per square kilometer (820/sq. mi). Its population growth rate over the decade 2001- 2011 was 29.29%. Chitrakoot has a sex ratio of 879 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 66.52%. Chitrakoot is connected by railway line and airways. Buses are a means of transport which has been used by the people often. Auto rickshaw is a major transportation method in Chitrakoot. People here are not that much developed as compared to other districts. Natural beauty is great here. Spiritual belief of people is great here. Also there is a lot of place where people can go to visit. Many temples are there in Chitrakoot.
