As we know that in India people are divided into various categories like BPL (Below Poverty Line), APL (Above Poverty Line), Antyodaya families, and High-Income group families. Types of Ration Card:

Types of Ration Card Based on Status of Peoples:

* BPL Ration Card: This type of ration card is issued to the people who are below BPL (Below Poverty Line). People who come under BPL categories must have an income equal to or less than Rs 27000 /-. Before it was Rs 11000 /- but later in 2011 it has been revised to Rs 27000/-

* APL Ration Card: This type of ration card is issued to the people who are above BPL (Below Poverty Line). People who come under APL categories have income more than Rs 27000 /- or we can say that there is no restriction for income in this category. Just it should be more than BPL category.

* Antyodaya Ration Card: This type of ration card has been issued to the poorest people who don't have any stable income. People who are old age, unemployed, labors, etc. comes under this category.

Types of Ration Card Based on Color:

* Blue/Pink/Red Ration Card: These type of  Ration Card has been issued to the families who are above the poverty line in the state. Special subsidies and services are provided to these Ration Card holders. This card is mainly used to take Kerosene oil from ration shops on subsidy rates fixed by the government. Families who do not have a Gas/LPG connection can apply for this ration Card.

* Orange Ration Card: Orange ration card is issued to the people above poverty line. Annual income may differ in various states.

* Yellow Ration Card: Yellow ration card is issued to the people who falls under BPL (Below Poverty Line).
The color may vary accordingly in different states.


Eligibility Criteria for Ration Card:

* First of all you need to be a citizen of India.
* If you come under BPL categories, you can apply for Yellow Ration card. Income must be less than Rs 27000 /- annually.
* If you come under APL categories, you can apply for Orange Ration card. Income must be more than that of BPL people i.e. you should be above BPL category.
* If you are above BPL category and just want to take the benefit of Kerosene oil, you can apply for Blue/Pink/Red ration card.
